According to the local government of Bangar, a P199.8-million public market officially opened in Barangay Maria Cristina East on May 8, 2026. The two-story facility, which spans 10,026 square meters, was constructed over two years to modernize public services and provide a dedicated space for local commerce.
The facility houses 384 vendor stalls designated for meat, fish, vegetables, and dry goods. To address traffic issues previously experienced at the old market site, the new complex includes a parking area capable of accommodating approximately 240 vehicles.
This infrastructure project aims to support local small businesses by providing a more efficient venue for trade. The building features improved ventilation, wider walkways, updated sanitary facilities, and a modern drainage system to ensure a cleaner environment for both vendors and consumers.
Mayor Joy Pinzon-Merin stated that the project represents a significant step in the town’s development. The local government intends for the facility to serve as a central hub for economic activity, offering residents of Bangar and neighboring areas in La Union a more organized and accessible shopping experience.
Regular commercial operations commenced immediately following the inauguration ceremonies held on May 7 and 8. The project is part of a broader effort to upgrade municipal infrastructure and provide better support for local entrepreneurs.
