According to PIA, Brigada Eskwela 2026 began June 1 in La Union, with over 400 public schools preparing for the new school year. The program emphasized student wellness alongside physical school repairs, aligning with the theme “Bayanihan sa Paaralan: Nagkakaisa para sa Kaayusan at Kaalaman.”

La Union’s Provincial Government allocated P10.625 million to the La Union Schools Division Office (LUSDO) to cover repair and maintenance costs. This funding allows schools to redirect Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) toward learning resources instead of repairs. Donations of paint, materials, and volunteer labor further supported campus readiness.

Education officials stressed balancing infrastructure improvements with emotional and mental well-being. La Union Schools Division Superintendent Jorge Reinante highlighted the shared responsibility of education: “A safe and orderly school becomes a home of hope for learners.”

Taboc Elementary School in San Juan became the pilot site for a solar power system proposal submitted to the Regional Development Council (RDC). DepEd Region 1 also seeks legislative support to fund infrastructure using operational savings.

Volunteers, including DOLE TUPAD program workers, assisted preparations ahead of the June 6 deadline. Officials urged parents to ensure student attendance on the first day.
